CV & Statement

Sabina Stan is an inter-media artist who creates interactive installations, three-dimensional objects made of rope and aluminum, as well as video performances. The themes addressed follow the artist’s journey of self-discovery, starting from defining herself as an individual and her role in the community, to observing her emotions and then consolidating the values she would like in society. She graduated from UNArte in Bucharest, from the Department of Textile Arts and Design. Since 2012, she has developed the technique of rope weaving, which she perfected through the works “The Perfect Home” (2015) and “Evolution” (2022-2024). The technique of working in aluminum is inspired by weaving. She began working in this technique through playing, discovering the malleability of aluminum, which gave her the opportunity to develop kinetic interactive objects, through the project “Heartbeats” (2020). Her training in computer science allows her to integrate micro-controllers into the installations or objects created to make them interactive. She has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, collaborations and group projects. In 2023, she had a solo exhibition as part of Ecosistem Festival, with the project “From an Orange Point of View” which includes all the techniques she has used previously as well as the new directions she is currently exploring, video editing and performance. Both the 2023 project and the current one, “Devyah”, explore female identity beyond the stereotypes of a patriarchal society.
