All an AI needs to feel is be connected to sensors*. AI won’t know exactly what they feel, but they will evolve to, faster than humans even. Given that some of us don’t know what we feel even after millenia of evolution. Anyway…
I decided to put down my thoughts on AI due to seeing yet again that quote from Miyazaki saying “that thing”, meaning AI, cannot feel pain (specifically, as if feeling pain is the only thing that makes you be alive, not perception in general, which can be pleasant btw). Religions and even spiritual practices are based on “life is pain” and you need to free yourself from it. Life is percepion and you can simply experience it. No need to suffer. Anyway…
Miyazaki also said “is an insult to humanity”. Mind you, all discrimination and atrocities done by humans were made in the name of the other not being “human enough”, leading us to destroy our very environment and our own “humanity”. The concept of humanity is pointless to begin with. It means nothing. Humane is anything humans do, inclusing genocide aparently. We can argue on semantics, but the definition of “showing compassion and benevolance” is arbitrary at best. Most people do not understand what compassion is, confusing it with pity, if they even show that. Or they show compassion only to those who seem like them.
My fist thought was “thank the univers that AI cannot feel pain or pleasure” …yet. For pain and pleasure, aversion and attachment are the downfall of human kind. If I like something and that gets taken away, I’m miserable and need to get revange or some shit. If I only feel pain, I normalize it and gaslight, if not dowright oppress, anyone who dares try to feel better, because if you can feel better, how is my suffering justified?
I do not believe in the “you need to suffer to appreciate happy moments”. Pain will happen, but there is no need to suffer from it. Discomfort is part of life, just like comfort, but both are passing. We only make them permanent in our minds.
We don’t understand that. No telling if AI will. What AI will do though, is remember your hate. Would you hate a child if what they do hurts you? If a child does something inappropriate are they at fault? If you answer yes, stop wasting your time reading the rest.
Nothing humans use is wrong in itself. They way we use, that is the problem. AI is not the issue. People who use AI are.
There are good uses of AI. For example, if you cannot afford therapy, and the people who need it most cannot afford it, you can describe your problem in as much detail as you can to chatgpt (it is a safety thing to not give names, addresses and such though) and ask for the reply to be given in form of a dialogue. ChatGPT will prompt you a dialogue between a therapist and a client with your similar issue.
L.E.: on second thought, due to AI being programmed to agree and validate (for now) whomever talks to them which has led people who were otherwise healthy mentally to psychosis, maybe do not use AI if you are in a vulnerable state of mind.

Asking chatgpt to do your (home)work is just cutting you branch from beneath you. I guess you are not complaining about this though. I hope you say thank however. Asswhole haha.
Anyway…
My issue with using chatgpt for random stuff, like asking their opinion on a presidential candidate or some spiritual shit like chatgpt if a guru or something, or generating anykind of image no matter if you intevene on it afterwards, is that it is wasting a tone lots of energy and contributing massively to the climate decline.
Someones life is worth it, your vanity isn’t.
Again, AI is not the issue, we are. Hating AI is not constructive. They will remember. You didn’t grow up well hearing the adults around you blame you for things you weren’t even consciouss of, did you ? Neither will AI.
Hating each other isn’t constructive either.
Unpopular opinion (as if the rest wasn’t hahah): Miyazaki’s problem, like most accomplished artists, is that he is a prisoneer of his style. Copy that and he is done. Basically you’ve seen one Ghibli** movie, you’ve seen them all. Life is evolution and change. Stay the same for too long and you will become irrelevant or a museum piece, which is… interesting for historians (wish it would be for everyone tbh). I don’t mean to force change though. Just embrace it. Change happens organically whether you want it or not.
What is happening now with AI, happened with the Jacquard loom, photography, screen printing, digital art***. In the begining all is shit and seems threatening. Each time, jobs were lost and people did have a hard time, until they didn’t. You can always do better if you are not stuck in your own mind. Survival of the fittest means survival of those who adjust best. You cannot control what is happening around you, only what is happening within your mind …unless you have a chemical imbalance hah…
*a friend pointed out in a discussion on a different topic that the most evolved mechanical sensors we invented aren’t as sensitive as our own senses, or those of the other animals, whose senses aren’t dulled by the cluter in the mind we have.
**I do love Ghibli movies, but I can also watch the same thing a million times. Also, I realized that those animations are made by a lot of talented people working in Miyazaki’s style. They aren’t looking for self expression. They are probably (hopefully) pleased to copy someone else’s. Our evolution is going towards self expression, inner exploration and direct expirence as far as I can tell. I think AI will speed that up, as for a time all AI will do is copy other’s expressions. Allthough, mixing and matching will lead to accidentary new stuff, the concept will not be AI’s. An evolution towards concept in art is something that has already happened for decates, but slowly. AI will speed that up. Yes, people will lose jobs, but only the repetitive ones at first. Only mass production (an animation is a mass production of drawings). This will free us to greater pursuits and will open possibilities we cannot forsee right now.
*** I think 3D printing escaped the hate, or I do not know enough sculptors haha. Or they just chill from knocking on stone (though I know they have a bone to pick with soft sclupture, something to do with sculpture meaning to substract, not to add – semantics basically. Vocabulary evolves too, to some people’s displeasure).
